“If you want to be a decorator, go play the Sims” is not a valid opinion on player housing

PLAYER HOUSING

Recently World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas was asked about it. He said it would be a long-term project that would take “multiple expansions” to do at the level players expect.

Ion said it would take a lot of work, but it is something that the development team talks about a lot and wants to do.

THE PLAYERS WANT IT

Player housing has been a long-requested feature for World of Warcraft. But people who don’t want anyone else to have fun, doing things they enjoy, say it’s a “waste of time.”Blizzard should definitely take their time and make sure they get it right. But they should also ignore toxic parts of the World of Warcraft player base.

The people in Wowhead comments saying things like:

“Those of you that like to pick out furniture and decorate, go play Sims, please. Don’t try to make it a part of WoW..”

Those people do not represent the majority of players, they arrogantly think that just because THEY don’t want something NO ONE ELSE should get it. They also call it a “waste of development time” which makes NO sense.

A feature that the majority of the player base clearly wants, and has been asking Blizzard to add for YEARS, is not waste of development resources.

Collectors and players that love customizing everything want player housing for that very reason.  They want to feel like they’re a unique part of the world…of Warcraft. Player housing could have all sorts of customizable things, and new professions on top of it.  That was one of the rumors started with the “leaks” before Dragonflight was revealed.  Why tell people who want MORE things to do in a GAME THEY’RE PLAYING ALREADY to shut up and play the sims?

People that say things like that are also the same people who ruin chat in the game itself.

There is a BIG difference between saying player housing isn’t for you, and calling it stupid, a waste of time, and telling people to go play another game.

Dragonflight isn’t getting player housing, but Ion’s comments makes me think it’s something they’ve been working on.  Perhaps it would come in whatever 11.0 would be, along with much needed revamps of Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Which Blizzard has hinted at in the past.

Like Ion said, it would have to be done right. Final Fantasy 14 has player housing, but it also has a huge problem with scarcity.  Resulting in players not being able to get housing if they’re not lucky.

Other mmos have done it as well. Blizzard just needs to make it as player-friendly as possible.

Blizzard could also expand on it with each patch or new expansion, they just need to get the base backend for it implemented.

I want it to happen even if it takes another expansion.

It would bring more players back to the game, and it would annoy jackasses who want to ruin the game for everyone else.

Maybe they’ll quit the game and World of Warcraft would be a little better for it.
